What is Power? Saturday, April 11, 2009 What is Power?
What is Power? According to Random House, the word itself has over thirty definitions. Even when you apply the word “power†to our M/s relationships, it is still a very open-ended question. What IS power? Is it what a Master or Mistress wields over a slave? Is it that thing a slave possesses at work or in other aspects of their daily life, but chooses to give over to their Master or Mistress? Is it the power of a slave to “run the world Is it something that radiates from a Master or Mistress that makes a slave a bit weak in the knees? Is it the ability to inspire a slave to follow the path of a given Master or Mistress?
How do you define power within your M/s relationship? To what extent does there exist a symmetry in the power given and the power taken? The answers to those questions are going to vary from individual to individual and from relationship to relationship. Within our M/s relationships, each of us finds a different symbiosis of power that works for us. Each couple will determine for themselves what defines power and how the exchange of power within the relationship helps to define the relationship.
As for today's exercise? What is power? You decide.
